ST PAULS
Wed 4th - Sat 7th May, £9 / £6 concessions
A new play by local writer Jonathan Hall

Education education education…

Gill’s trying to mark assessments- but she’s at the end of her tether with Clint Pickering and his mobile phone- Dorothy’s been making Vesuvius- from paper mache- Tina’s got her eye on the book box money. Oh- and there’s a car alarm going off outside the crack den.

All in all a fairly typical day at St Paul’s.

Luckily Dave’s on hand with a stonking power-point demo that could just hold all the answers.

Things can only get better- can’t they?

St Paul’s is a bittersweet comedy about education: about who educates, why we educate, the way we educate - and how actually we often end up achieving none of the above.

DAN LENO - THE KING'S JESTER
27th May, 7:30pm, £10 / £8 concessions

Dan Leno was the greatest Music Hall star of all time: the first stand-up comic, the best-loved pantomime dame and the world champion clog dancer with a strong line in character-based skits… he was, quite simply, the comic genius of his age and his work laid the foundations for contemporary British comedy.

Dan Leno blaized a trail long before Ronnie Barker's monologues, Les Dawson's wordplays, David Walliams' cross-dressing, Michael Flattley & Max Wall's feet of flame or even Chaplin's struggling little tramp.

With live musical accompaniment, this romp through entertainment history brings the Nineteenth Century showman to life and with it, an understanding of how British comedy has evolved.

“Lidington, inhabits the soul of Leno with daring and accuracy”. The Northern Echo
“This is Tony Lidington at his best… his ability to create the character and tell their story is outstanding.” - Teesdale Mercury
"Like stepping back in time… It was absolutely sublime. Unique. We were mesmerized." - Audience
